One-minute solo

Nothing written here. The click keeps time and the steps below are the structure; what you play inside it is yours.

How to play it

1. 1Set the click at 70, or wherever your playing feels best, and give yourself one minute.
2. 2Start with a groove, add dynamics, throw a fill, visit the tresillo, move an accent.
3. 3Give it a shape: four bars of groove, four bars of variation, a fill, then repeat. Space is an ingredient of its own, and a dramatic stop is a move.
4. 4End on purpose: a big snare or bass on a 1, then silence. There is no wrong solo, only steady time and sounds you chose.
5. 5Record about 75 seconds.

Listen forOne minute of intentional playing: a steady underlying pulse, at least two distinct ideas, audible dynamics, and a deliberate ending.
